What grade levels does the Lifetime Library cover?

The content found in the Lifetime Library ranges from subject matter typically

taught at the fourth grade level to advanced algebra on a high school or college level.

Learning 2000, however, has chosen to define the curriculum on the basis of

"content areas" rather than the highly subjective "grade level" approach.

The Lifetime Library focuses on the core content areas of reading, writing, and math,

which every student, regardless of grade level, needs to master.  The skills are

introduced at a relatively low level and then spiral up in level of difficulty through the

entire curriculum.  Students not only learn with the Lifetime Library, they acquire the

skill of learning how to learn.

How easy is the Lifetime Library to use?

The Lifetime Library is very user friendly.  The Library is designed around the familiar

metaphor of a book.  There is no requirement for understanding of "pop-ups", "pull-downs",

"menu structures", or any other software conventions.  Two orientations are included within

the program, allowing a new user to become familiar with the operation of the Library.

Can our students keep their licenses moving from middle school to high school?

Yes, you can export the students records to a student record disc then import the students records into the new database.  This will not consume an additional license.  Please refer to page 59 in your NRM manual or contact our technical support for assistance at 615.248.4205.

We're not networked - can we still use the NRM?

If you do not have a computer network it is still possible to keep records for large numbers of students using the Lifetime Library.  There are three (3) ways to accomplish this:

1.  Install the Lifetime Library and the NRM onto a single computer.  Then create a  student database.
2.  Install the Lifetime Library and the NRM onto multiple computers and create  separate student databases on each computer.  You will then need to assign each student to one specific computer.

3.  Install the Lifetime Library onto multiple computers.  Have student records kept on individual student record discs (floppies).

What are the dongle keys for?

The Library Key is a physical device that attaches to the parallel (printer) port on each of your student's computers.  For a student to use the Lifetime Library, a Library Key must be attached to the computer.  These Library Keys are white.

You will also receive a green key with your NRM.  This is the License Meter .  The License Meter is a physical device that attaches to the parallel (printer) port on one of your computers (where you are to install your NRM).  In order to license students, you must use the computer to which the License Meter is attached.  The License Meter is only required for licensing activities such as adding licensed students, or revoking a license.  All other functions of the NRM can be performed without the License Meter.

Technical Questions

Some of the CDs work and some don't...?

Does the Library start up fine, but it reports that there is "No Lesson CD in the Drive", when in fact

the correct CD is in the drive?  You may have a CD/DVD Player incapable of reading the CD.  The

Lesson CD's are full of useful content that is written all the way to the edge of the CD.  There are

some CD Players that can have problems reading such discs.  Please contact the manufacturer of

your computer to get this problem rectified.

Other possibilities are:

- is your disc dirty or scratched?

- you may have a defective disc.

Please contact our Technical Support for assistance and/or replacement details at 615.248.4205.

The video and voices are not synchronizing

This can be the result of your hardware acceleration being set too high.  To remedy this problem, right click on top of the My Computer icon, and select Properties.  Then click on the Performance Tab.  Click the Graphics Button, and move the Slider TWO notches back, so that the screen indicates Basic Hardware Acceleration.  You may also want to update your Windows Media Player.  You can do so by going to www.windowsmediaplayer.com.

I don't know the password?

There are three different passwords used for the NRM - one is for licensing and there are two levels of security for administration.  The default passwords are located in your NRM manual.  Please refer to Chapter 4 "Protecting the Student Data", which contains the default administration passwords, and Chapter 5 "The License Meter" for the default license meter password.

I am experiencing a problem when maximizing the program

When you maximize the program, the software adjusts your system to a 640 by 480 screen resolution.  If you are experiencing a problem when you attempt to maximize the program, either your hardware does not support this resolution or the drivers for your video card may need to be updated.  Please contact the manufacturer of your PC to obtain the most current drivers available for your video card.

Please note that some LCD (Flat Panel) Displays do not support a 640 by 480 resolution, and will not allow the program to run maximized.
